Press Release | Summer Festival 2023
Just two weeks after the end of summer vacation, Düsseldorf residents can experience an international atmosphere right in the heart of their own city—at the first summer festival hosted by Düsseldorf’s “Haus der Kulturen.” The sponsoring association “Haus der Kulturen e.V.,” founded in 2019, invites everyone to the Hofgarten on Jägerhofallee on August 20 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. A colorful program featuring culture, information, food, and drinks will be waiting for visitors.
Numerous immigrant organizations, which are united under the umbrella association, will set up booths to create the backdrop for a casual get-together in what we hope will still be summery weather. Thanks to a partnership with the municipal theater museum located on Jägerhofallee, various cultural events will be presented on its premises. In addition, there will be another program on a small stage. For the youngest visitors, there will be games and activities, including a bounce house.
Admission to this event is free.
Background:
After initial discussions about creating a “House of Cultures” in Düsseldorf began nearly 20 years ago, the project took on a more concrete form in 2019. At that time, more than 50 organizations with immigrant backgrounds or focused on immigrant issues formed the sponsoring association “Haus der Kulturen e.V.” In collaboration with the city administration, plans for the House of Cultures as an institution have been moving forward ever since. These plans are now in the final stages. The association expects a decision from the city council shortly after the summer festival and hopes to open the House of Cultures in the third or fourth quarter of 2024 in an office building on Yorckstraße that is set to be modernized.
