Introduction & Vision
We are creating a “House of Cultures”: an open space for people to come together in Düsseldorf, where education, events, art, and culture can converge.
Our intercultural, non-denominational, and nonpartisan center highlights cultural diversity and fosters appreciation for it within the city’s community. It is a place where people with and without a migration background work together to shape intercultural participation and dialogue.
The Concept

The organization's vision encompasses four key aspects that contribute to strengthening the community's cultural and social structures.
Cultural Diversity & Social Cohesion
Cultural centers bring people together and provide a space to share languages, traditions, and the arts. This exchange fosters respect, appreciation, and curiosity within the community.
Community Identity & Engagement
Spaces for social interaction and engagement, with resources and programs tailored to the needs of marginalized communities—and active participation in decision-making processes.
Creative Urban Development & Placemaking
"Creative Placemaking" combines artistic and cultural strategies with urban development: projects such as murals, community gardens, and events that foster a sense of identity and pride.
Education & Awareness-Raising
As an educational center, the organization hosts workshops, lectures, and programs that challenge stereotypes and promote a more inclusive and accepting society.

An idea emerged from many clubs.
Düsseldorf has a long tradition of collaborating with immigrant organizations. These organizations serve as bridges, provide guidance, and develop programs that meet the needs of their communities.
The idea of a “House of Cultures”—as an intercultural and transcultural space for exchange, events, and encounters among immigrant associations and other civil society actors—arose from the widely expressed desire for closer collaboration, cooperation, and networking.

What we want to achieve.
The “Haus der Kulturen” strengthens social cohesion in a society of immigrants and raises awareness of the engagement and diversity of migrant communities. It creates a new intercultural and transcultural space in Düsseldorf where artistic and creative collaboration can emerge and flourish. Ultimately, all residents of Düsseldorf will benefit from this project, which is unique to the city.
