Ensemble of Cultures – the open choir at the Haus der Kulturen in Düsseldorf

Every culture has its own songs. In the Ensemble der Kulturen, we bring them together: We sing in multiple languages and in harmony—songs from the countries of origin of the people living in Düsseldorf. Sometimes in Turkish, sometimes in Arabic, Spanish, Polish, or Farsi—but always together. This creates a repertoire that gives voice to the diversity of our city.

The choir is open to anyone who enjoys singing—with or without choir experience. There are no auditions, and the ability to read music is not required. We learn the songs together, by ear and with practice recordings to use at home. Anyone who would like to contribute a song from their own culture is warmly invited to do so.

Kemal Yaşar, an opera singer, choir director, and vocal coach, will serve as musical director. In addition to rehearsals, there will be regular workshops on voice, breathing, and polyphony.

• Rehearsals: every Tuesday, 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., at the Haus der Kulturen Düsseldorf
• Admission: Free, with registration required

What we ask of you: an openness to the languages and songs of others, reliability at rehearsals, and a little time to practice in between. What you’ll get: a place where many voices become one.
